Community/Environment Awards
 
Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva met with the young winners of the Brazilian version of the Intel Science and Engineering Fair 2009, at the Presidential Office in Sao Paolo in early August. More than 500 students from across Brazil compete for a chance to enter their exhibits at the main Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Reno, Nevada.  Aug 2009
For the second year in a row, three young women took top honors at this year's Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF)—the world's largest pre-college science fair. Tara Adiseshan, 14, of Charlottesville, Va.; Li Boynton, 17, of Houston; and Olivia Schwob, 16, of Boston were selected from 1,563 young scientists from 56 countries, regions and territories for their commitment to innovation and science. Intel Chairman Craig Barrett named the four winners of a challenge to developers to apply technology to educational, health care, economic development, and environmental issues around the world in his keynote at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing. Four winners from over 200 submissions from 44 countries were awarded $100,000 to continue to implement their solutions. Apr 2009
Fortune's latest ranking of the 2009 World's Most Admired Companies puts Intel at the number-one slot in the semiconductor industry and number 36 worldwide, across all industries. The ranking is based on innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, quality of products/services and global competitiveness. This is the inaugural year for the Intel Scholarship for Employees' Children, for which Intel Foundation has pledged $1 million annually. The awards went to 270 students in amounts up to $4,000. Intel's scholarship program received coverage in the Wall Street Journal. Mar 2009
Intel announced the winners of the Intel Science Talent Search in Washington, D.C. in early March. Eric Kerner Larson, 17, of Eugene, OR, won the top award, a $100,000 scholarship from the Intel Foundation. As part of their week-long trip to the nation's capital, the finalists met with U.S. President Barack Obama to discuss their views on the role of math and science education in solving some of today's global challenges. The Intel Science Talent Search encourages students to tackle challenging scientific questions and develop the skills necessary to solve the problems of tomorrow. Mar 2009

Each company profiled illustrates the power and potential of innovative ideas and creative execution. The million-hour goal has been a centerpiece of Intel's 40th anniversary year celebration and was achieved nearly one month before the end-of-year deadline. A key piece of Intel's corporate responsibility ethic, volunteerism—as measured by hours donated—increased drastically as more than 47,000 Intel employees from 40 nations lent a hand to nearly 5,500 local schools, non-profits and community groups. Intel China was honored as one of the top 50 workplaces in China at the 2008 Annual Meeting on Enterprise Competitiveness. Co-organized by Staffers and Mercer, Intel China also won the Best Campus Practice Award for its contribution in campus activities. In the overall assessment, Intel won high praise in terms of leadership, career development, teamwork, environment and welfare treatment. Dec 2008
 
Corporate Business Awards
 
Intel jumped sixteen spots from 36 last year to 20 this year on BusinessWeek's* "50 Best Places to Launch a Career" ranking. The rankings are based on data from U.S. undergrads and statistics from employers on pay and benefits to training programs and retention. Sep 2009
For the third consecutive year, Diversity/Careers in Engineering & IT magazine have named Intel as one of the "Best Diversity Companies". The magazine recognized Intel for our strong support of African Americans, Asians, Asian-Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, veterans, women, people with disabilities, GLBT employees, as well as our strong supplier diversity programs. According to the latest TOP500 list released by the University of Mannheim, Germany, Intel processors are in 399 of the world's 500 fastest supercomputers and in two of the world's top 10 fastest computers. A study of nearly 400 "Best Companies to Work For" across India ranks Intel number two. The ranking, by the Great Place to Work Institute, also specifically honored Intel with a special category award as the single best company in India for "Work Life Balance." This marks the fifth year that Intel India has placed in the top-20, and Intel's ranking has improved every year. Jun 2009

and the management sciences (OR/MS) on behalf of Intel's Decisions Technologies
Group (DTG). This award recognizes DTG's world-class contributions to Intel's manufacturing capability. Apr 2009
Intel retained its number one ranking as the U.S.'s biggest purchaser of environmentally friendly "green" energy, according to the latest rankings published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Apr 2009
Intel was ranked number 61 on this year's Fortune 500 list of the world's top companies. Fortune* said Intel was the sixth most profitable technology company. Apr 2009
Treehugger.com*, a website run by the Discovery Networks, recognized Intel as the single largest buyer of renewable energy in the U.S. This award recognizes the steps taken by Intel to collectively and significantly reduce our impact on the Earth. Apr 2009
The Ethisphere Institute has named Intel as one of the 2009 World's Most Ethical Companies. Intel earned a place on the list-along with 98 other companies in 35 industries-by going beyond legal minimums, introducing innovative ideas to benefit the public and forcing its competitors to follow suit by consistently upping the ante for what it takes to be an ethical leader. Intel® Health Guide was recognized by Frost & Sullivan with the 2009 North American Home Health Devices Product of the Year Award. The distinction is given each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new product development and introductions within its industry. Mar 2009
