Intel will again be the subject of some good-humored laughs with U.S. late-night comedy host Conan O'Brien. Intel is one of the first official sponsors of "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien," which launched under its new host on June 1. This time around, Intel and its "Sponsors of Tomorrow" marketing campaign will be woven organically with the show on-air and online through NBC Universal, the show's parent network. Intel and Nokia announced an agreement to develop a new class of Intel® Architecture-based mobile computing devices and chipset architectures which will combine the performance of powerful computers with high-bandwidth cellular-style communications and high-speed Internet access. The new relationship will allow them to work together to design innovative mobile devices that will be much more capable than today's cell phones, and new software platforms that will allow those devices to easily run and access Internet web sites and applications. Intel announced an agreement to acquire Wind River Systems Inc the leading software vendor in embedded devices. The acquisition will deliver to Intel robust software capabilities in embedded systems and mobile devices. Intel introduced 17 enterprise-class processors, led by the Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series-Intel's most revolutionary server processors since addressing the market with the Intel Pentium® Pro processor almost 15 years ago. A study of nearly 400 "Best Companies to Work For" across India ranks Intel number two. The ranking, by the Great Place to Work Institute, also specifically honored Intel with a special category award as the single best company in India for "Work Life Balance." The Intel Visual Computing Institute opened its doors at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany. This new research center will explore advanced graphics and visual computing technologies that can create life-like, real-time experiences and more natural ways for people to interact with computers. To launch the center, Intel is investing $12 million over 5 years, which is Intel's largest European university collaboration. May 2009
Intel signed a collaborative research agreement with King Abdul-Aziz City of Science and Technology (KACST) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to establish a world-class Center of Excellence in Nano-manufacturing Applications (CENA). Intel announced that it's Intel® Health Guide, a care management tool designed for healthcare professionals who manage patients with chronic conditions, is being used in the NHS Lothian telehealth programme.
