In a first-of-its kind ranking, Forbes* Magazine has calculated the generosity of the world's billionaires. Gordon Moore—who along with Robert Noyce founded Intel in 1968—is among the most generous. Moore has given away an estimated $6.8 billion, much of that money through the Gordon and Betty Moore foundation. Aug 2009
The California Museum said it will induct Andy Grove in the California Hall of Fame. Grove participated in the founding of Intel, served as CEO and Intel chairman, and is now senior advisor to management. Aug 2009
'Whiz Kids', a film that chronicles the paths of three young students who dream of becoming finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search, premiered in San Francisco. The film showed how they worked for years to put together projects that would impress the judges—and how becoming finalists could irrevocably change their lives. CEO Paul Otellini, the featured students—Ana Cisneros, Harmain Khan and Kelydra Welcker—and other notables were on hand to watch the inspiring story. Jun 2009

Fox Business News* network, an American cable TV news channel, broadcast a full day of interviews and stories from a studio they set up in the Intel Museum, at the Robert Noyce Building in Santa Clara, CA. Reporters interviewed Intel CEO Paul Otellini, Chief Technology Officer Justin Rattner, and a host of Silicon Valley newsmakers. Jun 2009
Intel Chairman Craig Barrett retired from Intel after 35 years. He joined as a young professor in 1974, and eventually led as president, CEO, and chairman. Intel's incoming board chairman is Jane Shaw. May 2009
A new listing by Scientific American* magazine praises Intel's corporate environmental manager, Todd Brady, for reducing the company's environmental footprint. The list names "ten researchers, politicians, business executives and philanthropists who have recently demonstrated outstanding commitment to assuring that the benefits of new technologies and knowledge will accrue to humanity." The National Inventors Hall of Fame honored longtime Intel leader Andy Grove with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Grove participated in the founding of Intel in 1968 and later served as president, CEO, and board chairman. Two other major Intel figures were inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame: Gordon Moore, who co-founded Intel, was honored for his work on semiconductor production and Dov Frohman-Bentchkowsky was honored for inventing the erasable programmable read only memory chip, or EPROM. This is the inaugural year for the Intel Scholarship for Employees' Children, for which Intel Foundation has pledged $1 million annually. The awards went to 270 students in amounts up to $4,000. According to Gail Dundas, who was quoted in the Wall Street Journal*, Intel offered employees the program along with other new benefits last year "because we care about them and want them to feel we're the best place to work." Intel board elects two new directors
Intel announced that John J. Donahoe, president and CEO of eBay Inc., and Frank D. Year,
vice chancellor of the University of California Berkeley, have been elected to serve on Intel's board of directors. Intel also announced that Carol A. Bartz, CEO of Yahoo! Inc., is retiring from the board. Mar 2009
Intel proudly announced the winners of the Intel Science Talent Search in Washington, D.C. in early March. Eric Kerner Larson, 17, of Eugene, OR, won the top award, a $100,000 scholarship from the Intel Foundation. As part of their week-long trip to the nation's capital, the finalists met with U.S. President Barack Obama to discuss their views on the role of math and science education in solving some of today's global challenges. The Intel Science Talent Search encourages students to tackle challenging scientific questions and develop the skills necessary to solve the problems of tomorrow. Mar 2009
The National Inventors Hall of fame announced the induction of Intel co-founder, Gordon Moore, in its 2009 class. This year's class represents advances related to or enable by integrated circuit technology. Intel also recognized the 50th anniversary of the integrated circuit. In 1959, inventor and Intel co-founder, Robert Noyce, created the first planar integrated circuit made from silicon. Moore joins Noyce and Ted Hoff, the first Intel Fellow, in the hall of fame.
